Superintendent's Budget Advisory Committee Rankings & Next Steps

If you have children in PUSD, you should have received an email from Dr. Blanco last night that informed you that the Superintendent's Budget Advisory Council has finished its work.  To view the rankings and the impacts the reductions might have on your school or program, parents can review the SBAC’s meeting presentations and ranked priorities, visit www.pusd.us/sbac and click on 2025 meetings.

Their priority ranking of reductions will be presented to the school board on November 13.  No action will be taken at this meeting.

The Board will take action at their meeting on November 20.  Implementation of the plan will begin in December with reduction-in-force notices issued in March 2026, and a new, balanced budget taking effect in July 2026. The recommendations are subject to modification based on an analysis of overall impacts at school sites.

There is an opportunity for public comment at both November school board meetings.  Although public comment is generally 3 minutes per speaker, if there are many speakers it may be limited to 2 minutes, so please plan accordingly.  Alternatively, if you want to submit a statement to the Board of Education, you can email your comment to publiccomment@pusd.us and put Public Comment with the topic in the subject line. Emailed comments will not be read aloud, but will be part of the public record.  You can also email your school board member representative, or any other board members.  Visit  https://www.pusd.us/about/board-of-education/board-members for more information.

We know there are a lot of emotions around these decisions. These board meetings are opportunities for parents to speak up about the best path forward for the common good of all students. Since public comment time is limited, we recommend preparing your statement in advance. Frame your message in a way that is clear and concise, and focus on a few key points so your message is received.

This is a stressful time for everyone, and after attending the SBAC meetings, we know that these decisions were very difficult for all of those involved.  No one wants to see staff leave or programs cut.  Hopefully, though, this will create some breathing room so that PUSD can take the time to re-imagine a school district of the future where our students will get the educational experience they deserve.
